Variety: “Death in Paradise” gets its first international adaptation, “Ubojstvo u raju”

We are proud to share that Variety, one of the world’s most influential entertainment industry outlets, has exclusively reported that the crime series “Death in Paradise” is getting its first international adaptation, in Croatia. “Ubojstvo u raju” (“Murder in Paradise”) is being produced by CGM Films for HRT1.
The original series, created by Robert Thorogood and produced for the BBC by Red Planet Pictures, has reached audiences in more than 230 territories. Fifteen years after its premiere it remains a mainstay of BBC One, and both the format and the series are distributed internationally by BBC Studios.
The Croatian version will be set in a fictional island community on Brač, with principal photography in and around Supetar planned for spring 2027. The series is produced by Bruno Mustić and Ivan Lovreček, directed by Jelena Gavrilović and written by Sonja Tarokić and Valentina Batalić, with Maja Fišter as commissioning editor for HRT.
As the producers told Variety, the aim is to bring the same blend of murder mystery, humour, warmth and strong sense of place to Croatia, while creating an authentically Croatian world with characters and cases rooted in Adriatic island life. At the heart of the story is the relationship between Petar, a detective who feels out of place on the island, and the local police team, particularly Marina, whose understanding of the island challenges his way of doing things.
HRT Editor-in-Chief Rahela Stefanović noted that, having already worked with us on the successful “SRAM”, she is confident the new project will build on that experience and deliver another high-quality series that resonates with Croatian viewers.
The Variety feature confirms international interest in “Ubojstvo u raju” and marks another important step in positioning our production on the global stage.
